Product TEA Test: Wispr Flow
Dictation That Actually Feels Effortless
TL;DR
What: AI-powered speech-to-text on iOS and macOS, across devices.
For: anyone who prefers speaking over typing.
Glows:
Easy to use. One button starts transcription. Great accuracy. Your context is saved across devices.
It learns what you usually say. Things like your email, name, uncommon names, and websites you mention get saved. Next time you say them, they show up correctly in the transcription.
It recognizes your language and starts transcribing without you manually switching languages.
Grows:
On iOS, the first time you use it, you get routed to the original app. It is not fully seamless, but it is bearable.
Verdict:
Try it now!
How It Actually Felt to Use
My context: I heard a few podcasters talk about how useful this app can be, especially because it can not only transcribe, but also fix grammar and remember your specific details. When I started coding, I realized prompts can get long and need a lot of context. Speaking instead of typing saves a ton of time and makes the overall experience feel better and more productive.
Best moments:
It documents your vocabulary, and you can also add words you use.
Your personal info can be saved for faster turnarounds.
Even if you whisper, it recognizes your voice remarkably well. You can whisper even when people are around. You can also see exactly how many words you've spoken.
It detects multiple languages automatically, without you having to switch.
Frictions:
The first time you use it on your phone, you get directed to another app. Hopefully this gets solved soon.
Who Should Try This
Great for: anyone who prefers speaking over typing, or has a lot to type and wants to save time by dictating instead.
Not ideal for: I think it works for everyone.
Timing: Try it now.
That said, I see this product becoming very vertical. It feels likely that a big tech company, especially a hardware company like Apple or Samsung, could acquire it. Or Wispr could build its own hardware, like a ring, that would bring this text-to-speech workflow to more devices beyond phones and computers. Or Wispr could evolve into AI agents, where user instructions get executed on the user’s behalf. Things are moving fast, so it is hard to see how a stand-alone product survives without pivoting or adding more agentic use cases.
That’s it for the week! Next week we will dive into Superhuman. Till then, cheers!
